Weekend of racing on the Nore

A fantastic weekend of racing on the Nore, kicked off with the Brendan Fitzpatrick 10k, Eoin Doyle GP 5k and the Walter Broderick K2 races on Saturday 13th June. This was followed on Sunday with the 28th Nore Ranking Race. The long start on Sunday saw a number of experienced paddlers set off along the Nore from Bennettsbridge with a few spills and thrills over the weirs and rapids on this 23k course. There was a great turn out in Thomastown at the short start. Experienced and beginner paddlers lined up in the sun to take on the Nore. There was lots of excitement, with many youngsters racing on a river for the first time and with 5 seperate starts, they were off.The Nore didn’t disappoint, with lots of small rapids, waves and bridges to negotiate on their way down. A great day was had by all. One added bonus was the lovely stand of teas, coffees and goodies waiting for the competitors at the finish line. Another bonus was the wonderful weather. A big thank you to all at Thomastown Paddlers for putting on a wonderful weekend. Thanks to everyone involved.
