The next race in the marathon series is rapidly approaching, it will take place on May 14th in the Malahide esturary. The race doubles as part of the selection process for the European Championships to be held in Denmark in July. Race start time is 11am, registration will take place online in advance although we will also take registration on the day with a late registration fee. The race notice will be published shortly.
The marathon committee have been working hard along side canoeing ireland to promote marathon canoeing nationally. One of our primary objectives is to grow participation in the sport through the development of existing clubs but also the addition of new clubs, particularly outside the leinster area. Part of that development involves raising the profile of the sport in the media. With that in mind Canoeing Ireland will attend the race in Malahide and they will be accompanied by Junior minister for sport Jack Chambers and Shane Califf (Director of NGB’s; Sport Ireland). This is a great opportunity for us to raise the profile of not only marathon canoeing but canoeing in general on a national level so I would encourage all clubs to have as may people as possible participate on the day.
We look forward to what should be a great day of racing.
