Long Course Marathon National Championships Race Details &Registration

As announced earlier in the year we are delighted to have the Long Course Marathon National Championships return to Dripsey, Co. Cork on August 1st. The National Championships were due to take place at this venue last year but were cancelled last minute due to an intercounty travel restriction on the Friday night. The event is being run in conjunction with Phoenix Kayak club & Ciarán Cooke who have ran 2 previous events in Dripsey.

Portage at different water levels

For those who have not been it is one of the best Marathon racing venues in the country for both paddlers & spectators. It is a lapped course where spectators have visibility to about 3km of the 4km lap with a lovely grass portage right at the start finish area where spectators can cheer on. The portage is beach style with the water getting gradually shallower rather then a typical river bank style. Depending on water levels there may be some stones exposed right at the waters edge.

The event is ran from the grounds of Griffin’s Garden Centre in Dripsey. Even though the Garden Centre itself will unfortunately not be open this year the owners have kindly given us access to the site which we are very grateful for. We will have toilet facilities available on site

We will have all the usual age group category National Championship races but will once again have some Non Championship races for paddlers of all types of boat or lower division paddlers who may not fancy doing the 16+km their age group would require. Medals will be awarded to the top Male & female Seniors & Juniors in each Open category.

Online entry link is below. Note entry on the day will be accepted but is subject to a 5 Euro late entry fee. We encourage all paddlers to register using the online system if at all possible.

The racing will kick off at 11:40 with races being ran across 2 race sessions based on the schedule below. We have a time window to get all races ran before water skiing activity resumes near the bottom turn so races will start at allocated times. Registration for Session 1 will open at 10:40 and registration for Session 2 will open at 12:00
