Irish Shine Bright at Marathon World Cup in Portugal
Saturday morning in Portugal saw the finals of the short course racing take place. These involved a 3.6k race containing 2 portages. Kilcullan’s Ronan Foley dominated his race to comfortably take the Gold medal. In the Senior Mens race Barry Watkins of Salmon Leap was among a strong field but was never out of the front 3 paddlers. He ended coming home with a well earned Silver medal behind 5 time Euopean champion Jose Romalhio of Portugal.
The morning saw lots of valuable experienced gained ahead of the long races as our young athletes got their 1st taste of international racing.
